SAFEGUARDING

Built to be safe, by design

GoodTurn only ever matches volunteers to small, low-risk tasks that don't require a DBS check. Safety isn't a policy layered on top — it's built into what a task is allowed to be in the first place.

If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 Everything below is about GoodTurn's own safeguarding process, not emergency response.
This page describes GoodTurn's safeguarding model as designed. A named safeguarding lead is reviewing it before the platform is used by real volunteers or residents — treat this as pending review, not a completed assurance.

The no-DBS task-tier model

Every task on GoodTurn falls into one of two tiers, and both are designed to need no DBS (criminal record) check:

Remote help
Phone calls, video check-ins, tech troubleshooting — no in-person contact at all.
Doorstep tasks
Drop something at the door and knock — no entry into anyone's home, ever.

Tasks requiring entry into a home, supervised group activity, or anything higher-risk are explicitly out of scope for GoodTurn — this isn't left to admin discretion, it's enforced in how the platform is built.

How we keep things safe

Volunteers must be 16 or over, with parental consent required for under-18s
No money ever changes hands between a resident and a volunteer
A resident's exact address is only shared with the matched volunteer, and only after a match is confirmed
All messages between volunteers and residents stay inside GoodTurn — personal contact details are never exchanged
Every task is posted through an authenticated account — nothing is ever anonymous
Every safeguarding-relevant action — consent, reports, category changes — is logged and reviewable

Something doesn't feel right?

Any volunteer, resident or organisation can raise a safeguarding concern about a task, a message or a person at any time. Reports go straight to a review queue — they're never left for the other party to see.
